To Ah Soon from Hong JJ

Hey.. Ah Hong here.
I spoke to Ah soon on the phone just now and i will write it down here in case he needs recap on the information.

Ah Soon departure date & time from Msia: 23rd Sept around 9.00am (Saturday)
Arrival date & time in London: 23th Sept around 3.10pm (Saturday)
Estimated arrival date & time in Hull: 24th Sept before noon (Sunday)

Here's some reminders to Ah Soon:
1. Since you are arriving Hull on SUNDAY, call Hull International officer before 23rd Sept to make sure there is somebody in the reception on 24th Sept. Let them know you will be there on Sunday to register and Check in to your accomodation, the email address for Hull International office is
international@hull.ac.uk . Besides, if they couldn't register you on Sunday, ask them how you could check in to your accomodation and register on Monday. If you can't get a map of Hull Uni, the accomodation office is on 11, Salmon Grove (a road beside the Uni) for weekdays and on Cottingham road when the main office closes. In case you need, the phone number for Accomodation office in Salmon grove is +44 (0)1482 305341. If the International Office could not help you in accomodation, try email them yourself. In case you need to print out the map before you go, here's the link http://www.hull.ac.uk/accom/documents/Campusmap.pdf

2. Try to catch the early train on SUnday to Hull as it takes around 3 hrs to reach Hull from London. Check properly the time for the train, you might need to transit at Doncaster to HUll. Remember to ask the ticketing officer.

3. If you cannot contact somebody to meet you up at Hull train station. Travel from Hull train station to Hull University is pretty easy. You need to get a taxi (was black in colour 3 years ago) beside the train station and tell them you wanna go to University of Hull on Cottingham Road(in case they don't know which entrance you wanna go). It should be around 10 mins drive and should not be more expensive than 10 pounds (was 5.5 pounds). The cab is big and able to put all your luggage in.

4. I brought 2 bank drafts to HUll last time. One is for full tuition fee, another one is for expenses & accomodation fees. It's also up to you which other arrangement is more suitable for you.

5. When you register to Hull, make sure you get a paper of a list of payment due date for tuition fees, accomodation & misc.

6. Try to obtain the class schedule and venue at least for 25th Sept from the reception or from the website once you know exactly your actual course name.

7. It's better to put all ur document/medical report in a CLEAR FOLDER, so that you can easily flip to show the immigration officer.

8. Prepare around 12 passport size photo and bring over to UK for future usage such as student id, Travel pass & etc.

9. When you get the phone card from Ah Ling, you can make phone call from the student union bulding in the campus, or use the telephone booth on Cottingham road to call back to Malaysia.

10. You can open a bank account from HSBC Bank in the student union on Monday by obtaining a letter from the International Office to prove that you are a student of Hull and bring along your passport, bank draft & neccessary document to the bank.

11. You can buy fresh food on Beverley road on weekdays and on Sunday, there are few mini-mart on Cottingham road where you can get most of your food too. You can usually share the cookware with your housemate where everybody contributes some of them.

tips: you might wanna bring a table lamp as the lights in the student house can be quite dim to you.

Do print out the information in the blog if you need to. I know your eyes are blur-blur now..
:D good luck!!
